th Grade Parent Math Night

7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Math Night, sponsored by the OPRFHS PTO, is an opportunity for
parents to get an inside look at what happens in their student’s classroom. The Math
Department is offering four informative workshops for the current freshman parents. All
participants will have an opportunity to attend the following two sessions:

2 – Homework Helpers

Learn note-taking and organization strategies that promote success in the classroom. See
examples of homework from all freshman math courses to help you learn how to help your child be
successful on homework and tests.
Freshman Year Math and Beyond!

Learn how math goes beyond one classroom with discussion about science curriculum, Math Team,
American Achievement Tests and more. You will have an opportunity to see how students can move
to different levels of math and what tutoring opportunities are available.
Participants whose children have Geometry A (227), AAF (215), IAF
(213), or Foundations of Algebra (203) are strongly recommended to take the following session: (If you do not know your child’s math course, please look at his/her
current schedule.)
Calculator’s, Computers and CBR’s…oh my!

Feeling overwhelmed about the technology of today? Experience how technology is being used in
your child’s math classroom. Enjoy a “hands-on” demonstration of graphing calculators and much
more!
Participants whose children have Algebra 1 (211) or Algebra 1
Block (212) are strongly recommended to take the following session: (If you do not know your child’s math course, please look at his/her
current schedule.)
Agile Mind

Learn more about the new program for our traditional Algebra 1 class and Algebra 1 Block
classes. You can see how the online service, Agile Mind, will make a clear presentation of
mathematical concepts using a combination of written descriptions, illustrations, animations, and
interactive activities.

Parent Registration
Form
and have your
student return it to his/her current math teacher
no later than September 6. A confirmation letter will be sent home with your
child prior to the event. Walk-in registration, the evening of the event, will be on a space
